NOTES:

1860: Died in the Civil War, he had one daughter, M.L.Poythress. His widow
Caroline Ware- Poythress then married Lt. John Thomas Gay, who also died in the
Civil War.
1860: C.E.(Caroline Ware) Poythress(24) and her daughter M.L.(5) with Real
Estate Value $17,200/ personal estate value $60,000. A.C. Ware listed his job
as M.D. with real estate value $7,000/personal value $8,000. Residing with
them was James Crawford age 27, born N.C. and wife Mary age 22, born Ala., he
was a Druggist with real estate value 0 and personal value $4,000. Next door
lived Augustus's mother his sister Anna Ware, and brother Wm. Ware.

1860-1865: A.C. Ware served as captain for the "Nancy Harts", a company of women
whose formation to defend their town during the Civil War. He drilled, marched,
and taught them marksmanship. The company was the brainchild of Nancy Hill
Morgan. Several recruits were Poythress Gay, Augusta Hill, Mrs. Brown Morgan,
Andelia Bull, Sarah Bull, Mrs.Peter Heard, Mrs.Moots, and Mrs Nancy Colquitt
Hill-Morgan. These people were all related.
1861: 26 April: Caroline E. Ware/Poythress/Gay widow of Wm. Poythress served as
a Pvt. in the Civil War and is listed as wounded 26 April 1864.
Caroline was child of Bennett Ware and sister of Lt. Eugenius Ware.
Eugenius served in Co. B, with cousins: Thomas Glenn Cameron, Allen C. Gibson,
Pvt. Thaddeus B. Cameron, John Thomas Gay and Pvt. Joseph J. Ware.
Caroline's 1st husband Wm.Poythress and her 2nd husband John Thomas Gay and her
brother Eugenius died in battle during the Civil War.
Also serving in Co.B. was Joseph J. Ware enlisted 26 April 1861, who was
wounded at Charcellorsville, Virginia 10 Jul 1864.

1870: This left his widow with another daughter to rear alone, she was named
E.W. Gay.
1870: Augustus had become a Druggist with real estate value $3000 and personal
value $2,500. He had married and had two sons. His neighbors were C.E. Gay,
M.Y. Poythress, E.W.Gay,and Anna Ware,his sister all residing together in one
home. Anna Morgan, the Cameron and Screven family lived nearby. John's widow
was Caroline E. Ware-Poythress-Gay. Caroline lost two husbands in the Civil
War. We find all of these people residing together in 1870.
