1860: Govan is single, living at home.
Govan "Twiller" Thompson, served with Co. E, 64th N.C. INF- CSA (served with
two brothers and a cousin). They were captured at Cumberland Gap and imprisoned
at Camp Douglas near Chicago. They returned to find their home burned and
everything destroyed. They first settled near Saluda, then moved to Dana. Was a
teacher before taking up farming.
1870: Polk Co. census: Govan is listed as teaching school, his wife's name was
was incorrectly listed as (Catherine) but Louise Caroline was her given name.
1880 Polk Co. census, Govan(45)occupation farmer, has wife Louise Caroline(35),
has children Nancy Elizabeth(9), Glenn Zenophen(7), James Taylor(5), Govan
Twiller,Jr(4), with twin daughters Sarah Frances(1) and Mary Flower(1).
1920 Henderson Co. census: Govan resided with son in law, John W. Hoots.
