1850:John(27) occupation is carpenter; with wife Sarah E.(29)(name apears as
Susanna E. on 1860 census) they have a son Wm. E.(3 months). All listed as
being born in South Carolina. Next door are the families of Charles McKay and
John McDonald. Jacob McLenden(65), a relative, lives nearby with 3 adult sons.
1860: John W.(39) listed as farmer, his wife listed as Susan E.() with children
four children. The Rev. Robert English with family lives next door.
1865: John enlisted at Sumter County, South Carolina at age 43. He served as a
Private in Company K23rd South Carolina Volunteers and died of wounds he
received at Petersburg, Virginia. Co.H 26th Regiment S.C.Volunteers.
The Horne families settled in the area of Lynchburg Twp. and Mt. Cleo Twp. of
Sumter Dist/Sumter County. Sumter County was formed from Sumter District in
1865. This area was transfered to Lee County in 1902. The townships retained
their original names.

11 Jun 1851: John W. Horn makes deed gift to his son William Elias Horn, 93
acres on the Black River. Should son William die, this land to be divided among
his surviving brothers and sisters. Witnessed by Eliza Ann English, and C. Jane
English.
