Roderick was named after his grandfather Roderick Leonard.
1850: Alexander K. Leonard, farmer, (41), Estate Value $10000. With wife
Elizabeth(36) B.Ga., children (by 1st wife), John(16) and Susan(9). Children
(by 2nd wife), Roderick(6), Sarah(3), and Henry(1). Step-son Michael W. Harvey
age 10,born Alabama resided with the family.
1858: Rod attended the Southern Military Institute at Marietta, Georgia.
He served in Co. C, 3rd Georgia Cavalry during the Civil War in Wheeler's Reg.
Rod became a progressive planter and erected a Commodious steam ginnery and
made many improvements, the Editor of Talbottom Standard in March 1882 noted
that the Talbot County Agricutural Society called him a most practical planter.
He gave a speech on land cultivation and in 1884 was noted for his carp ponds.
Linhurst, was a plantation, original name 'Shelton-Kimbrough' manson.
